OL SCHOOL WEDS. Video----Grand Puba (Brand Nubian)
He made his debut with the group Masters of Ceremony. Its album Dynamite (1988) was hailed by critics, but probably due to lack of sales, the group soon disbanded, and Puba emerged as the lead emcee of Brand Nubian. After their innovative and versatile debut album One for All (1990)—covering areas from reggae-influenced hip hop music to new jack swing—Puba left the group after disputes with its other members and embarked on a solo career. He became a member of the group again around 1997, recording a few tracks for various soundtracks leading up to the full-length album Foundation in '98. In 1999, Puba and group mate Sadat X performed on the track "Once Again" on Handsome Boy Modeling School's concept album So... How's Your Girl? Following the group's 2004 effort Fire in the Hole, a rejuvenated Puba appeared on tracks with Beanie Sigel ("Bread and Butter," also featuring groupmate Sadat X), Missy Elliott ("My Struggles," featuring his onetime collaborator Mary J. Blige), and Ugly Duckling ("Something's Going Down Tonight").
In 2009, Grand Puba released his fourth solo album, Retroactive, featuring production from hip-hop veterans like Q-Tip, Large Professor, Kid Capri as well as his fellow Brand Nubian's. Puba also appeared on the heavy posse-cut "Fresh" together with Cormega, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, DJ Red Alert and Parrish Smith of EPMD....Enjoy!!

MADLIB Medicine Show No. 7: High Jazz
Madlib Medicine Show #7: High Jazz is an all-new Madlib jazz production. High Jazz, the name itself a tribute to the landmark jazz-fusion album released by Stanton Davis’s Ghetto Mysticism in 1976, shows a marked development in Madlib’s craft.
Since the introduction of Madlib's Yesterdays New Quintet releases nearly a decade ago, the producer's core group of musicians and collaborators (known collectively as "Yesterdays Universe") has grown by the dozens. The notoriously elusive, publicity-shy and anti-commercial ethic of the group has kept many of the recordings from every being released, while others have been pressed anonymously, kept within the group or distributed only among private collectors.
Among the newly released tracks on High Jazz are a Madlib, Karriem Riggins & James Poyser collaboration, the debut of groups Generation Match, The Big Black Foot Band, RMC, and a 15-minute live piece by Yesterdays New Quintet (recorded at a secret show in 2000). The 15-track album runs a total of 61 minutes.....

OL SCHOOL WEDS. Video----Alkaholiks
Tha Alkaholiks first achieved recognition after appearing on Tee's Tha Triflin Album, and most importantly its successful single "I Got It Bad Y'All". Support slots on tour with KRS-One, Ice Cube, and Too Short followed, which helped them develop their skills as well as a fanbase. Their debut album 21 & Over released in 1993 (see 1993 in music) was a lean 10-track set that spawned the singles "Make Room", "Only When I'm Drunk" and "Likwit", as well as establishing them as one of the most distinctive artists on the West Coast at a time when the vast majority of Californian artists were subscribing to the G-funk gangsta rap sound popularized by Dr. Dre. 21 And Over remains highly regarded by critics such as Allmusic's Nathan Rabin, who calls it "perhaps the quintessential West Coast party album".
The group's follow-up album Coast II Coast in 1995 (see 1995 in music) saw them attempting to develop their sound further while staying to their fun-loving roots, working with A Tribe Called Quest's Q-Tip and expanding their lyrical outlook with tracks such as "21 And Under" which warned of the dangers of underage and irresponsible drinking. Likwidation followed in 1997 (see 1997 in music), and Tash's debut solo album Rap Life was released in 1999 (see 1999 in music), both to mixed reviews. During this time they also formed the Likwit Crew, a close association of artists including Xzibit, Defari, King Tee and Lootpack.
The early 21st century saw a slight increase in Tha Alkaholiks' profile due to the sudden Dr. Dre-powered rise to fame of the Likwit Crew's Xzibit (whose platinum album Restless they appeared on in 2001), and they sought to take advantage of this with 2001's X.O. Experience which saw them working with hit-making producers of the time like The Neptunes and Rockwilder. They also changed their official name from Tha Alkaholiks to the shortened Tha Liks, the reason being that many mainstream radio stations refused to play tracks by a group called Tha Alkaholiks. A DVD XO - The Movie Experience was also released just after the album. Though the album sold reasonably well, it was not as much as expected.....Enjoy!!

OL SCHOOL WEDS. Video----Hieroglyphics
Hieroglyphics, also known as the Hieroglyphics Crew and Hiero, are underground hip hop collective based in Oakland, California. The collective was founded in the early-1990s by rapper Del tha Funkee Homosapien. Finally....Guilty Simpson's----Ghettodes
This past year, around the same time Madlib was creating his remix of Guilty Simpson's Ode to the Ghetto for his Madlib Medicine Show #1 release, we had Oh No remix the tracks as well, using samples from the Now-Again catalog. Oh No's collection Ghettodes is not meant as an album, but you put 14 tracks together and you might as well call it that.
A few tracks have come out individually over the past year via stonesthrow.com, the ST Twitter and ST Facebook pages, but here is a download of the complete set:
1. American Nightmare: released on the Whitefield Bros 45 American Nightmare.
2. Piglets: we put this up on Stones Throw's twitter a while back.
3. Riches
4. Futuristic feat. MED: also sent out via Twitter.
5. What to Do: released on the Stones Throw x Serato set.
6. Rob
7. The Ghetto (Interlude)
8. The Ghetto
9. Y'all Scared: Released on stonesthrow.com (here)
10. Dreads: b-side of the Whitefield Bros 45 American Nightmare.
11. Killer: Released on stonesthrow.com (here)
12. Runners feat. Black Milk
13. Raw (Interlude)

OL SCHOOL WEDS. Video----Kool Moe Dee
In the late 1970s, Kool Moe Dee met Special K, DJ Easy Lee, and LA Sunshine to form the influential old school hip hop group the Treacherous Three on Enjoy Records. It was with The Treacherous Three in 1981 that Kool Moe Dee performed his freestyle on-stage roast of old school party rapper Busy Bee Starski, a performance frequently cited as a pivotal moment in the development of the battle rap.[1] Kool Moe Dee attended Norman Thomas High School on 33rd and Park Avenue in New York City and was known as a quiet eccentric young man always holding a pen and a pad ready to write his rhymes. In 1981, they moved to Sugar Hill Records along with another Enjoy Records act Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. The Treacherous Three became well known for their singles Feel the Heart Beat and Whip It. They were featured in the 1984 breakdance cult-movie Beat Street performing the song Xmas Rap with Doug E. Fresh but disbanded shortly afterwards....
Kool Moe Dee is perhaps most well known for his long running rivalry with fellow New York rapper LL Cool J. He, among other rappers such as MC Shan, claimed that LL had stolen their rap styles. He also felt that LL was disrespecting the reigning MCs at the time, himself, Melle Mel and Grandmaster Caz by proclaiming that he was the greatest without paying due respects to those who came before him. He challenged LL on his platinum selling album How Ya Like Me Now on the single of the same name. He also took a shot at LL by appearing on the album cover with a jeep in the background with the wheel crushing one of LL's trademark red Kangol hats. The feud continued on with both MCs proclaiming themselves the victor.....Enjoy!!!

MADLIB Medicine Show No. 6: The Brain Wreck Show
Madlib Medicine Show #6: The Brain Wreck Show is a psych-prog-avante-freak-out-funk rock mix CD, the sixth installment of his Madlib's monthly music series for 2010.
Madlib’s been pegged as a “jazz guy” as far back as 2000 when he & Quasimoto released the song “Jazz Cats.” Declaring this as his first inspiration in music, he's continued to explore jazz years with his fictional jazz group Yesterdays New Quintet. Lately though, his inspiration has come from the rock side of the spectrum.
But, no matter how many jazz records are thrust at him by money-hungry record dealers, he most often – at least lately – gravitates to the late 60s to late 70s psych-prog-avante-freak-out-funk rock. From the Tropicalia of Brasil to the Krautrock of Germany to the fuzzy sonds of mid 70s Nigeria, the Beat Konducta’s rock tastes know no cultural bounds. Actually, we’re not sure if they know any bounds.
This – an introductory mix entitled The Brain Wreck Show (admission, he wrote on the CD master, “One Brainticket” – an homage to one of his favorite Krautrock bands) – should serve to give its listeners a delightfully freaky funked up experience into the rock side of Madlib’s collecting conscious. We’re glad you’re along for the ride.
Madlib Medicine Show is a once-a-month, twelve-CD, six-LP series through the year of 2010 on his own imprint, Madlib Invazion. Odd numbers will be original hip-hop, remix, beat tape and jazz productions; even numbers will be mixtapes of funk, soul, Brazilian, psych, jazz and other undefined forms of music....
MF Borat (aka Sacha Baron Cohen and MF Doom) – “The Mask and the Moustache EP”
Shoutout to steadybloggin on this one. From the files of “stop playin”, our favorite metal faced emcee has apparently teamed up with comedian Sacha Baron Cohen. As the story goes:Baron Cohen was on the west coast in 2006,promoting Borat, and met Doom randomly. From there, the pair began a working relationship and dubbed themselves “MF Borat”.As further described on the site:
After finding some mutual interests, the two got together for an impromptu recording session, during which DOOM rapped a pre-existing verse over a beat Cohen had made in 2005 with Khazak producer Kulki Boolchek. Later in the year, the two got together once again, and Doom unloaded a couple more verses onto three more of Cohen’s beats, making for a four-song EP.
