March 12th @the Congress...HOUSE OF PAIN Reunion
St. Paddy's day weekend just got real serious.
The iconic 90’s hip hop group HOUSE OF PAIN comes to Chicago on the FRIDAY MARCH 12th for a pre-St. Patrick’s Day celebration! The almighty Wu is also represented as GZA opens up along with Chicago’s own Mass Hysteria, ADaD and The Comeups! HOUSE OF PAIN defined hip hop at its most raw and raucous form with their smash hit “Jump Around” co-produced by DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill. The songs distinctive, incessant beat merges a deep bass groove with drum loops and Public Enemy-styled sirens. House of Pain’s latest project LA COKA NOSTRA will also perform which pairs the House of Pain crew with new members Ill Bill and Slaine. Combine all this with St. Patrick’s Day festivities and the nights sure to be a party of rapturous proportions!
As an insanely good bonus GZA the Genius will bless the Chicago stage with rhymes like razor-sharp swords of liquid. As one of the founding members of the colossal Wu Tang clan, GZA has established himself as an extraordinary solo artist as well with classic albums like Liquid Swords and Beneath the Surface.

OL SCHOOL WEDS Video----COMPTON's MOST WANTED
C.M.W. included rappers MC Eiht and MC Chill, Boom Bam and DJ Ant Capone who was later replaced by DJ Mike T, and producer DJ Slip. The Unknown DJ was also a producer for the group though not officially a member.
Their first three albums It's a Compton Thang, Straight Checkn 'Em and Music to Driveby, were produced by DJ Slip and The Unknown DJ, who produced both Electro funk tracks as well as Ice T's classic gangsta song "6 In the Morning". MC Chill was an original member of C.M.W. at the time of their first album It's a Compton Thang, but was sentenced to imprisonment in 1991 before Straight Checkn 'Em was issued. He was released from prison in 1994. During his time in prison he missed C.M.W.'s two biggest albums "Straight Checkn 'Em" and "Music to Driveby". After three years behind bars, MC Chill did not have the chance to return to the group as they broke up following Music to Driveby. Instead, Chill decided to work with MC Ren and MC Eiht for their solo albums. In 2000, the group reformed and released "Represent". They are known especially for their slow, often melancholic raps, using samples from 1970s soul and funk records such as "Joy" by Isaac Hayes and "Love T.K.O." by Teddy Pendergrass. MC Eiht is pursuing his solo career, while DJ Slip is mainly working for the new West Coast label IV Life Records. Additionally, C.M.W. are set for a reunion which will feature on DJ Slip's next album "The Minority Report"....Also, this year 2010 MC 8 will put out an album on DJ PREMIER's Year Round Records and DJ Premo will executive Produce the album...ENJOY!!!

Wu-Tang Saga...Documentary
While GZA has apparently been working on a behind-the-scenes documentary about the Wu-Tang Clan for several years now, aspiring indie filmmaker Jeremy Mack gets up close and personal with members of the group and it’s closest affiliates with his own film, Wu-Tang Saga. While the film seems to focus more on the second string members of the crew, it also has tour footage including the entire Clan. The two hour film is available for pre-order now via http://Wutangsaga.com and ships Feb 25th.

BluePrint to Cover THE WHO in Feb...
We’ve seen Blueprint craft albums based around samples from Funkadelic and Radiohead, respectively. Next, the prolific artist will build an album around samples from classic rock outfit, The Who.
“A lot of artists and producers do “mashups”, where they take existing vocals and put them over something else, but I try to do this series of record differently, by writing original material and not recycling rhymes,” said Print in a statement.
The Soul Position frontman will release “Who” as a free downloadalbe album, and also as a limited edition retail CD version, including a poster, sticker, and full instrumentals for the release. The hard copy will be available at http://Printmatic.net..

OL SCHOLL WEDS. Video---STETSASONIC
Stetsasonic was a hip hop group formed in 1981 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York. It is remembered as one of the first hip hop crews to use a live band, and their positive, uplifting lyrics have made the group forerunners of alternative hip hop and jazz hip hop. The group disbanded soon after the release of Blood, Sweat & No Tears. Frukwan and Prince Paul were founding members of the Gravediggaz, while the latter also became a well-respected record producer, as did Daddy-O, who worked with Mary J. Blige, Positive K, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others. Former member Bobby Simmons pursued work in public access, forming the show Flava Videos in the mid-'90s on Channel 26 (New York). Wise is known as one of the pioneers of beatboxing along with Doug E. Fresh....Enjoy!

Jordan 1 "Future Sole 1" shoe..
The Future Sole Jordan I is one of the best new makeups of the shoe of late. Reflective materials are always crease-tastic, but we already knew that, and these are still pretty hot. Simple done well, and the whole initiative is something we support one hundred percent. Last year's winners were good - shouts to Matthew D. in particular for an outstanding design, shorn of the referential guff old farts like us would chuck at a fresh silhouette. Encouraging the next generation of designers is something that should be taken very seriously, so shouts to team Jordan for making it happen. At present, Nike's on a roll with the technology and new court pieces - Future Sole should keep the industry out of retrospective purgatory for the next decade or so. As Razors in 'The Long Good Friday' put it so unexpectedly eloquently, "Little acorns..." We're anticipating even bigger things for the project this year.....

DJ ROB SWIFT...Rabia-2nd Movement
The beauty of making music with the turntables is that in can basically be made up out of any sound you want, even more so now with the advent of serato. A perfect example of this beauty in practice is Queens' DJ Rob Swift, member of The X-Men (Xecutioners) DJ crew, and one of the main forces behind that crew's two major label albums that launched them into a seemingly never ending tour of the world. All the while, Rob was perfecting his own solo material and putting it out there for us. His Sound Event album was a superb piece, and showed the world exactly what the DJs place could be in the production of an album. It can be hard to find a DJ that can produce a complete album, that's cohesive, and Rob is that DJ. He has collaborated with a long list of notable artists, including Bob James, Large Professor, Blue Man Group, Herbie Hancock, Bob James, Linkin Park, Good Charlotte, Dan The Automator, Fat Joe, Cypress Hill and more.
Rob's next album, The Architect, will serve as his first release on (genius musician) Mike Patton's Ipecac Recordings label....Coming Feb 23rd

OL SCHOOL WEDS. Video---KOOL G RAP
Kool G Rap, is a rapper from the Corona section of Queens, New York. He began his career in the mid-1980s as one half of the group Kool G Rap & DJ Polo and as a member of the Juice Crew. He is often cited as one of the most influential and skilled MCs of all time as he is a pioneer and master of Mafioso Rap/street/hardcore content and multisyllabic rhyming. On his album The Giancana Story, he stated that the "G" in his name stands for "Giancana" (after the mobster Sam Giancana), but on other occasions he's stated that it stands for "Genius". Juice Crew producer, and Mr. Magic DJ; Marley Marl knew Polo, and allowed him and G Rap to go to his studio to do a demo, which resulted in the song "It's a Demo." The song was written and recorded in one night, and had Marley so impressed, that he instantly embraced Kool G Rap and DJ Polo as Juice Crew members (it's worth noting that this was the first time G Rap had ever met Marley.) In 1986 on Mr Magic's Rap Attack radio show on 107.5, the duo got their first exposure which created more buzz. They eventually released "It's a Demo" as a single with"I'm Fly", along with two more singles. Shortly after this, Kool G Rap appeared on the Juice Crew's classic posse cut 'The Symphony' before they released their debut album, Road to the Riches in 1989. This album and their two later albums, Wanted: Dead or Alive (1990) and Live and Let Die (1992), are highly regarded and considered Hip-Hop classics. Eventually in 1993, Kool G rap parted ways with DJ Polo in pursuit of a solo career....Enjoy Gangsta!

Adidas Original ZX 5000..
Released in 1989, the ZX 5000 was initially positioned as a simpler model that focused on superior cushioning for middle to long distance runners. This version comes in a black, white, red and grey colourway that works well across the varying elements of the shoe. The upper is constructed from a suede and mesh combination that is predominantly black with the red providing elements of pop in the form of a stripe on the heel tab, reflective toe panel, lace jewel and foxing on the otherwise grey 3-Stripes. The white midsole segues neatly into the all-white heel stability counter at the rear of the shoe providing for a nicely balanced colourway that will work well across a range of scenarios....

Madlib's Latest Yesterday's Universe Jazz Fusion LP...
Miles Away is the latest in releases to evolve from producer & arranger Madlib's first jazz releases with the group Yesterdays New Quintet.
As Yesterdays New Quintet dissolved in 2007 the collective was expanded under the name “Yesterdays Universe,” out which The Last Electro-Acoustic Space Jazz & Percussion Ensemble became the first to release music with Summer Suite (Stones Throw, 2007).
Miles Away is a jazz fusion album, produced & arranged by Madlib, which has been tweaked and revised for over two years when it was first announced. Look for more of Madlib's Yesterdays Universe releases to follow in 2010.
About the packaging: Madlib's Yesterdays Universe releases are heavily influenced by the culture of 60s-70s jazz vinyl, and we've taken pains to present a true mini-gatefold LP-style package for the CD, with thick cardboard, a “tip-on” gatefold photo, and printed inner sleeve. The double LP is also gatefold. Cover painting by Radek Drutis, design by Jeff Jank.
