Before paparazzi became a household name and TMZ gotten its own time slot on TV, there was Ricky Powell. The photographer captured the heydays of Studio 54 to the pioneering scene of hip-hop with acts from Run DMC and others. But it isn’t just about his photographs, Powell’s acute memories of events gives him an uncanny ability to reiterate a moment in details, making him the unofficial visual archivist of NYC.

Circa 1987 – DMC of Run DMC in Hollis, Queens. And circa 2000 – Powell on vacation in Venice, Italy. All 3 screen-printed onto all cotton tees, black or white.
