LOUISVILLE SLUGGER X SHWOOD – LIMITED EDITION ASH WOOD EYEWEAR COLLECTION

After an arduous winter, spring is finally upon us and with it the tradition of MLB’s Opening Day. To mark the annual celebration and its own 130 years in baseball, Hillerich & Bradsby’s Louisville Slugger recently partnered with eyewear maker Shwood to create an one-of-the-kind product line, the Louisville Slugger x Shwood Ash Wood Eyewear Collection. Adhering Shwood’s eco-friendly guideline, each eyewear begins its life as an actual Louisville Slugger baseball bat. Handcrafted from Ash wood harvested from Upstate New York, each bat gone through the various baseball leagues worldwide before Shwood repurposed them into eyewear frames at its Portland, OR workshop. Based on Shwood’s two most popular styles – the Canby and Haystack, each hand shaped and flame-tempered for strength. Comes with baseball-inspired pouch and a commemorative trading card as complements to the collection. There are also two Louisville Slugger x Shwood Select editions, each limited to 200 units and quipped with polarized lens, leather travel case, a display baseball bat burnished with both brands and handcrafted wooden display box in addition to the commemorative trading card. All four editions from the Louisville Slugger x Shwood collaboration are available now through Shwood’s online store. In the meantime, see the behind-the-scenes video of these unique editions after the jump below…

Offspring x Saucony Shadow 6000 “Running Since ..’96″

Both favorites in their own right in the sneaker world, here we behold a new collaboration between footwear superstore Offspring and running legend Saucony. The “Running Since ..’96″ project pays homage to both Saucony’s running heritage and Offspring’s 18 years as a premier retailer, executing Saucony’s hallmark Shadow 6000 in two vibrant colorways. The upper of the shoe features premium pig suede throughout a paneled upper, resting atop a clean speckled midsole and rubber tread bottom. The grey version pays special homage to the cobbled streets of Offspring’s Covent Garden location, while an accompanying navy version has also been produced. Other details include a 3M reflective tongue, as well as a contrasting bright pink color at Saucony’s iconic swiveling side logo. Look for these to drop exclusively at Offspring retail locations on April 5, then online on April 7.

NIKE AIR MAX 1 (AIR MAX DAY)

27 years ago, Nike opened up an uninhibited view of the ultimate cushioning by cutting away the midsole sidewall on the Air Max 1 to reveal their concealed Air bag technology. An icon was born, and as they say, the rest is history. The original Air Max 1 hit retail shelves on March 26th in 1987, now nearly three decades down the track and with the franchise still pounding the pavement as strong as ever, Nike look to honour the original release date with a special edition Air Max 1 delivery. Featuring the same red/white/grey colourway as the OG, the Swoosh sub in a Volt sole and tongue lining – a colour used by Nike regularly to highlight new technologies and performance silhouettes – with the commemorative date 3.26 printed on the tongue tabs. We could riff about the history of Air Max all day long, in fact we’ve already done that in our 72 page Air Max retrospective in Sneaker Freaker issue 28, check it out here. The Air Max 1 (Air Max Day) will be available on Nike.com and from select Nike retailers globally on Wednesday March 26th....

AIR JORDAN 9 “BIRMINGHAM BARONS”

As many of your know, Michael Jordan took some time off from the NBA to try his hand on the diamond, taking his talents down to Birmingham, AL to try out for a minor league team called the Barons. As evidenced by their uniforms, which inspired the look for these new Air Jordan 9′s, the AAA team was affiliated with the Chicago White Sox, with the grey and white colorway taking car of the upper while black does the midsole and the striped inner liner. The shoes also feature a grey lacing system, a black midsole, and MJ’s number stamped on the heel. A never before seen look on an iconic silo, this Air Jordan 9 “Birmingham Barons” is scheduled to release at select shops...

The Alchemist & Budgie – “In Heaven’s Home” (feat. Prodigy & Roc Marciano)

Limited to 1,000 this product will begin to ship on March 11, 2014. BAU Presents The Good Book Produced by The Alchemist & Budgie featuring Action Bronson, Domo Genesis, Blu, Prodigy, Roc Marciano, J Rocc, Mick Luter and A$ton Matthews. The first project under BAU Music / All Is Fair Agency is an amazing boxset concept, produced by The Alchemist and Budgie (UK), which is housed in a faux book wrapped in leatherette featuring gold foil printing. Al and Budgie’s two separate, mostly instrumental, albums are built exclusively from gospel samples. The resulting beats, incredibly unique and original, provide a canvas for collaborations from Action Bronson, Blu, Prodigy, Roc Marciano, and others. A true collector’s piece, “The Good Book” shares the near religious experience many of us draw from hip-hop. Raw, secular sounds informed by powerful, communal songs.
