MADLIB/FREDDIE GIBBS-----DEEPER
Following Thuggin and Shame this is the final 12-inch vinyl EP before Freddie Gibbs & Madlib release their collaborative album, Piñata. On the Deeper EP, Gibbs showcases the yin and yang of heartbreak and anger on the title track, in a lovelorn narrative that meshes perfectly with the weepy strings and insistent rhythm of Madlib’s beat. We haven’t heard something like this in rap music since Nas’ “One Love,” nearly twenty years ago. The b-side, “Harolds” – exclusive to this EP – gives Gibbs a chance to ride some low down Beat Konducta-fueled funk in a nostalgic ode to the Chicago chicken-shack that served as the backdrop to many of his seminal life experiences.
Piñata is scheduled for February 4, 2014 on Madlib Invazion. The album will feature Raekwon, Scarface, Danny Brown, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis, Joey Bada$$, Ab Soul, BJ The Chicago Kid, Meech of Flatbush Zombies, Casey Veggies, Mac Miller, Polyester the Saint, G-Wiz.

Freddie Gibbs x Madlib “City” feat. Karriem Riggins
After hitting the net on Friday, Adult Swim formally releases the latest joint off their Adult Swim Singles series (now with free download). On a very impressive 15 weeks of 15 tracks lineup, I’ve been anticipating this joint the most (still lookin’ forward to Miguel and Captain Murphy). Freddie Gibbs and Madlib link with Karriem Riggins for the quick but deadly cut, “City.” The song only gets me that much more excited for the long awaited Gibbs x Madlib LP, Piñata, that’s said to drop later this year. Features on Piñata include Raekwon, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, Domo Genesis, Joey Bada$$, Ab Soul, BJ The Chicago Kid, Meech of Flatbush Zombies, Casey Veggies, Mac Miller, Polyester the Saint, and G-Wiz – wow. Listen to “City,” below, download at AS, and head over to RAPPCATS to cop the 7″ single (only 500 pressed)...
